We fight for students, primarily in Joliet Jr. High's, and give them a strong voice. Providing tips helps us find what is and isnt working and request improvements in our schools. This really helps us!
Due to student complaints on staff not handling bullying cases seriously we launched an investigation. We ask students and parents to submit tips/complaints to us on staff or practices they feel are or arent helpful when handling bullying. Tips can be about other matters you feel need improvement as well. See examples below.
HOW THIS WORKS
Lets face it, as students you are sometimes ignored when you speak out. LFJ advocates for you as your voice. When you report on your schools, principals, incidents, staff, etc you allow us to request improvements. Not only that but you helps us ensure staff is using moral principals and following district policies. Power to the students!
Take the anonymous questionnaire. It helps gather everyones responses to show what staff and practices need improvement.
Examples
Jayden is getting seriously verbally/physically bullied. A staff memeber saw but only told the bully to stop briefly without documenting it. He sees this wasn't effective and worsened the problem by not doing more to address the bully.
Addison is in her advisors office reporting a student for bullying. Her advisor says he/she will talk to the student. Addison is still bullied after multiple conversations with her advisor. She feels that her advisor hasnt been helpful or has made the situation worse.
Jeffrey notices Brian disrepecting a staff member. He notices the staff member takes matter into his/her hands and gets defensive with the student. Furthermore, does not document or report the situation to the students advisor.
Jake was in the bus stop and sees students are picking on a student.
All are examples of things you can leave us a tip about. You can report other matters though from staff and student behavior to fights and bullying not being taken seriously.
